SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS
It is crucial to invest in our neighborhoods. But to improve them, we need to become better at collaborating. Only by working together can we assure all Des Moines residents of healthy, safe neighborhoods.
We must commit our city to focus on the five building blocks of strong neighborhoods:
1. Affordable housing stock
2. Accessible parks and family-friendly spaces
3. Safe streets and connected sidewalks
4. Reliable and efficient public transportation
5. Strong schools
As your at-large city council member, I will work tirelessly to ensure that Des Moines allocates funds to remove or repair blighted and abandoned houses throughout the city . . . that everyone has access to affordable public transportation . . . and that all children have the opportunity to prosper in highly regarded public schools. A robust working relationship between our city council and our school board is long overdue.
"I HATE TO SEE DES MOINES LOSE FAMILIES TO THE SUBURBS. WE CAN DO A BETTER JOB OF RETELLING THE SUCCESS STORIES IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS."
